United Airlines replaces Boeing 757s with Airbus

NEW YORK: United airlines He said Tuesday that he had ordered 50 Airbus A321XLR planes, worth an estimated $ 6.5 billion, to replace an existing fleet of old Boeings.

The new Airbus aircraft, which will be delivered from 2024, will allow United to withdraw its Boeing 757-200, the company said. The order of Airbus is the last blow for the American manufacturer, already plunged into the crisis surrounding its 737 MAX, which has been punished worldwide after two accidents that caused 346 deaths.

Boeing has no new aircraft to compete with the Airbus A321XLR in the mid-range of the market. Airbus launched the A321XLR this year in June.

The range of the single aisle aircraft is 15% higher than its predecessor, the A321LR, which makes it a cost-effective alternative to long-haul wide-body aircraft. Its larger fuel tanks allow it to cover up to 8,700 km in nine hours, significantly more than the Boeing 737 MAX.
