Rishabh Pant cannot be isolated, here to support him: Virat Kohli
HYDERABAD: captain of India virat Kohli Thursday backed under fire Rishabh pants , stating that he would not let the young wicketkeeper-batsman feel isolated.
Pant has been under the scanner for a while due to his inability to convert starts and for erratic work behind the stumps. Recently he was also criticized for the bad calls DRS and several former players declared that he is running out of time quickly.
But before the international T20 series against the West Indies that started here on Friday, Kohli threw his weight behind the 22-year-old.
We certainly believe in Rishabh's ability. As you say, (also) it is the player's responsibility to do it well, but our responsibility is to give him space, support him. I should get support and it's disrespectful if you don't get it, he said.
As Rohit (Sharma) said recently, he needs to be left alone, he is a winner of the match. Once it comes well, you will see a very different version of it. He cannot isolate himself to the point that he is not doing well. We are here to do things for him, he added.
India and the West Indies will compete in a T20 and ODI series, each of which consists of three matches.
