Case of Chinmayanand: Law student granted bail by the High Court of Allahabad
SHAHJAHANPUR: The 23-year-old law student, who filed sexual harassment charges against former Union Minister Chinmayanand and is in jail in a related extortion case, was granted by the SD Singh court of justice on Wednesday late.
Chinmayanand was arrested on September 20 and reserved under sections 376C (sexual intercourse by a person with authority), 342 (illegal confinement), 354D (harassment) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the (IPC) in the student's complaint of right.
She, along with her friends Sanjay, Vikram and Sachin, were charged under sections 385 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation), 201 (disappearance of evidence) and 35 (criminal act carried out with criminal knowledge or intent) of IPC . Information Technology Law for allegedly extorting Rs 5 crore from Chinmayanand. Shahjahanpur lower courts denied their bail requests.
The law student lawyer, Deba Siddhiqui, told TOI: “The Saumitra Dayal Singh court of justice granted my client bail after an almost one hour argument. The court admitted that all sections slapped against my client were rescued and, therefore, bail was granted.
