I could not speak against my government in MP: Sumitra Mahajan
INDORE/BHOPAL: Former Speaker of Lok Sabha Sumitra Mahajan The political circles were filled with doubts on Monday saying they could not speak against the former BJP government in Madhya Pradesh, and used to ask Congress leaders Jitu Patwari and Tulsiram Silawat, both ministers in the Kamal Nath government now, that raise important issues
The state Congress hit BJP, saying that after Rahul Bajaj, now a BJP veteran has confirmed that there is a lack of democracy in the BJP government.
Referring to the previous BJP government in Madhya Pradesh, Mahajan said: According to my experience, when my government is in power, I cannot speak against them ... But someone needs to raise issues related to Indore for its development. Therefore, I used to ask Jitu Patwari and Tulsiram Silawat to do something (highlight the problems) and would handle the situation later by coordinating with Shivraj (former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan). ”
He added that the leaders of Congress, who were in opposition during the BJP regime, used to accept his request and highlight the problems to improve Indore. When it comes to Indore's development, we don't give up on party politics, Mahajan said at an event at Jitu Patwari's residence, chaired by Governor Lalji Tandon, Sunday night.
He praised Patwari for his good behavior and said he is on his way to becoming his disciple.
His statement went viral on Monday. The State Congress said that after the industrialist Rahul Bajaj, now a senior leader of BJP has made the accusation that he could not speak at BJP.
In reaction to Mahajan’s statement, Patwari said on Monday that he looks upon the senior BJP leader as his mother. “Sumitra Mahajan ji was always positive about the development of Indore, which is above party lines. So, she used to seek help even from Congress MLAs to raise important issues concerning the city, ”said Silawat.
State Congress spokesman and chief minister Kamal Nath’s media convene Narendra Saluja tweeted, “After industrialist Rahul Bajaj, now the country’s former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan exposed claims of freedom of speech within BJP. She said when I was unable to raise public issues while my party was in power, I used to request Congress leaders to take up the issues and they readily obliged. ”
Another PCC spokesman Durgesh Sharma said, “Sumitra Mahajan ji has openly said that she could not speak out within BJP. She took the help of Congress MLAs when her party was in power. It reveals that there is no democracy in BJP rule and has clarified that it is in Congress that leaders can speak their mind. ”
Senior party spokesman Pankaj Chaturvedi tweeted, “First, Shri Rahul Bajaj and now Shrimati Sumitra Mahajan, both wanted to say that expression of truth not possible in BJP and if one tries to do it, the person suffers.”
BJP, however, claimed that Mahajan's statements only showed his emotion for Indore and that the party always kept his word when he was in power in the state. Mahajan's statement is based on emotions, since it belongs to Indore. She is our main leader and we respect her and consider all of her suggestions, ”LoIdra Parashar, media manager at BJP, told TOI.
