Vijay Merchant Trophy: Undefeated Abhishek Murugan 80 supports in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: a half-century undefeated fight for Abhishek Murugan rescued the day for Hyderabad hosts on the first day of their Vijay Merchant Trophy (U-16) Quarterfinal match against Madhya Pradesh in the Gymkhana, here on Monday.

Hyderabad, reduced to 162 by seven, had many problems, but Abhishek entered into an association of 84 races for the eighth wicket with Pranav Varma (32) to help the hosts reach 246 for eight on stumps.

Put on the bat, Hyderabad had a bad start with the first game A Vignesh Reddy (1) falling with only three on the board. Things got worse when Arnav Kothapally (6) also left with the hosts with only 23 on the board.

Abhishek, who entered the 6th position, took over the proceedings. He led the recovery by adding 42 for the sixth wicket with Dheeraj Goud (19) and then the association to save his face with Pranav, who fell on the last day.

Abhishek was hitting on a ball 175 of 175 with 12 strokes to the fence.

Saumy Pandey was the most successful bowler for visitors with a three-by-39.
