Aizawl faces Chanmari in her projector debut

KOLKATA: After keeping Mohun Bagan in a goalless draw in his I-League can opener, Aizawl FC are ready to assume Chanmari FC in the first leg of the 8th Premier League Mizoram at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Aizawl on Tuesday.

It will be the first time that the stadium will host a game under the lights. The reflectors were installed earlier this year.

For Aizawl, it will be a huge test of character especially after playing such a high-intensity game against the Kolkata giants on Saturday. They have another I-League match against NEROCA in Imphal on Friday and coach Stanley Rozario is worried about his players picking up injuries.

It is a difficult game for us. After playing so well in the entire league, I really want to reach the final. On the other hand, I am also worried about the Imphal party. Given the tight schedule, I will make some changes, but the core team will remain the same, ”said Rozario.

Lalremruata, who was brilliant against the goal against Bagan, will begin. What remains to be seen is whether Alfred Jaryan will return as a striker where he has been successful in the MPL so far. However, against Bagan, he could not impress in advance and played in the midfield for most of the game.

Meanwhile, playing in the spot will give Aizawl a great advantage. While the defending champions have always played their I-league games here, it will be the first for Chanmari.

As for Chanmari, it will be a great task at hand. They finished fourth after the league stage with only 20 points in 14 games after winning five, lost five and tied four of their matches. A month ago, they also let go of their coach Shylo Malsawmtluanga, popularly known as Mama, and the team is currently under interim coach Samuel Sailo. In addition, the only foreigner who had been recruited for the season, Goodwin Quashiga, will not be available for the match. Ghanainan defensive midfielder is injured and there will only be Mizo players on the team.

Even so, the team is confident of offering a good show since their two games in the league stage ended in a draw. While the first tie remained goalless, the second match ended 2-2.
